Description

Each library has to have textures optimized and all scene files compressed.
Furthermore each library should then be packed into as compact an archive as possible.

A system for losslessly compressing the textures has been set up and has been running on the in-house renderfarm the entire weekend now. So far it has shaved off 14MB of the textures with no quality degrading effects being used. It still isn't completely done but it should be pretty close now.

#2 Updated by jbk about 7 years ago

  • % Done changed from 10 to 20

An additional 6.3MB resulted from running the lossless compression for even longer, totalling a 20.3MB saved so far. Next up is packing the libraries into archives.

#3 Updated by jbk about 7 years ago

  • % Done changed from 20 to 80

The libraries have now been packed up into 5 archives. A total of 25MB has been saved.
Need to test the deflate64 on the linux clients - it works fine on Windows

#4 Updated by jbk about 7 years ago

Linux required an updated unzipper - need to retest this on windows to be absolutely sure that it works.
Also need to pull all the md5sums and compare with the original archives.

#5 Updated by jbk about 7 years ago

  • % Done changed from 80 to 90

20MB of scene-specific files were found and then moved out of the libraries. These files will be added back into the storage tree for those individual sessions.

MD5 sums for all archives have been compared with the original data and all .blend files have been found to match (PNG files are smaller and hence do not match).

Last thing for this issue: Test the windows unzipper again

#6 Updated by jbk about 7 years ago

  • Status changed from New to Closed
  • % Done changed from 90 to 100

Unzipper seems to be working without any problems
